2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) antiepileptic drug
inhibiting glycolysis with iodoacetate blocks epilepsy
Figure 2.  The effect of replacing extracullular glucose is mimicked by glycolytic inhibitors.  A)  Adding 1 mM 2-deoxyglucose and 20 mM lactate slows epileptform bursting bursting to 62 +/- 9 % of the baseline frequency (n=9, p<0.01)  B)  Adding 200 uM iodoacetate and 20 mM lactate reduces epileptform bursting to 10 +/- 5 % of the baseline frequency (n=6, p< 0.05)
